Happy Birthday Elissa!!
For her birthday cake, Elissa requested chocolate in some form and an ice cream cone theme. Here's what I came up with!
Inside: Double chocolate cake from Gourmet via Smitten Kitchen with
cocoa whipped cream filling from the Cake Bible
Outside: Vanilla Bean Swiss Buttercream and real ice cream cones filled with more of the cocoa whipped cream!
I'm pleased with the way the cake turned out, but I am pretty frustrated with how much food coloring it takes to get any color into swiss buttercream! For the pink I used powdered food coloring and it seems to work better than the gel ones, though it does clump a little so I got some streaks as I covered the cake. I guess I'll keep working on it!
