Old vs New Apple Wireless Keyboard

Old vs New Apple Wireless Keyboard by MischievousOne.
Looks like it lost a lot of weight.

This reminds me a lot of when the Nintendo DS came out and then was followed by the Nintendo DS Lite. I had both and while I loved the original, I loved the next one even more.

After installing the Keyboard Software Update (1.2, I think), which was posted yesterday, all the keys are in good working order. Hurrah!

You might need two: one for each hand...

I've got enough keyboards already! I don't know that having one more will help.

Could you please measure the dimensions of the keyboard? I'm interested in buying one but Apple hasn't posted the dimensions and I can't find them on the 'net anywhere.

Nice! I've been waiting for Apple to change the keyboard because I have the previous wireless one as pictured above, and it just feels like mush to my fingers. The new one isn't a full "desktop" kind of keyboard, lacking the cursor keys and number pad. How are you getting used to it?

Rob Daemon - Here's some very rough estimates: 28 cm (length), 13 cm (width). The radius of the cylindrical bit at the bottom top end of the keyboard is about 1.75 cm.

FreeTrooper - I have a black MacBook so it feels very much like I'm using my laptop. The cursor keys are actually still there, but they are below the Shift key on the bottom right hand side. I have to say that I don't miss the numeric keypad at all as I've mostly used the ones above the QWERTY keys. I like the smaller footprint and size of the keyboard because I have a small frame and I no longer have to stretch my right arm really far just to reach the mouse. That's definitely a boon! :)

There's a market for someone to sell little rub-on Apple transfers for these keyboards ;-)

what's it like without the number pad and stuff? (basically the whole right side, lol)

i've hesitated to switch because of this, and I don't want to go to wired, i liked having the wireless keyboard.

I really don't miss the number keypad from the older, chunkier wireless keyboard. The only thing I miss is the other Delete button as one used to back as a backspace key and the other Delete button that's no longer in the new keyboard deleted letters in the other direction.

I think you will like the new one a lot. It's so light and so much more sleek looking than the old one.

I love mine.

Can you use Fn + Delete for that other delete key option? That's how it works on the MacBookPro..

The top "chunky" pro keyboard although LOUD, is way more finger friendly and hand ergo-safe.

The new slim Apple keyboard is in my view and experience one of the worst keyboards ever made.

And I'll tell you why...

Initially I thought they were great because Im a minimalist and it initially felt nice. Until after a couple of months of use I developed a sharp nasty pain in the left index fingers first joint. I developed a bump at my index joint from a pain.

The keys have hardly any play to let your fingers absorb the shock of hitting the keys. The height of the keys and the overall slim design is too close to the hard surface of a table.

Try typing and tapping directly on a desktop. Do it long enough and you'll begin feeling pain from the shock your finger joints and cartilage nerves absorb the hits.

I'm a graphic designer who constantly has to hit keys for keyboard shortcuts, I've been doing this for more than 10 years. Never have I felt a pain until I started using Apple's stupid superficial slim keyboard.

I just replaced it with the previous model, the white pro keyboard which has larger keys and the key height and mechanism absorb the joint shock. AND my finger upto my knuckles are starting to feel better.

Keep typing on the slim keyboard and you'll see. Its rigid and does not absorb keystroke pressure.

Just my input. Anyone else have or has developed and issue with these keyboards?
