■ A large spider (Chilean tarantula, Euathlus truculentus), slightly larger than an adult human male hand.
Taken at Madrid's Zoo (Spain) in subdued light, using no flash of course, with a Panasonic Lumix TZ7 (ZS3), handheld ( 70 mm, f/3.9, 1/8 sec., ISO 800 ).
I took this pic last summer in very, very low light, so low that it needed both high ISO (ISO 800) and a very steady hand on my part plus a very good job on the part of the camera's built-in stabilization system in order to get a clear, focused, sharp pic at the long 1/8 second exposure.
Everything worked Ok and the resulting picture is perfectly acceptable as far as focus, sharpness, detail, and noise are concerned. The pic is completely unretouched and unprocessed, straight out of the camera (SOOC), the orange tint and low light are exactly as they were to the naked eye through the cage's thick plastic or crystal).
