Cover Me Down Again

Crop to here and add some titles to the upper portion.
Cover Me Down Again by thePLOWblog.
OK, I am at it again. They wanted the feel of this to match the photos, more colors. Also no one person to be a focus, but more abstract on instruments and people. I think this art will work well in the full booklet design, the elements can be used well. Now it is up to you, let me know.

IMO, the photos are detracting from the design, or visa-versa. There doesn't feel like there's any kind of continuity- the photos feel like they are tacked on top of the background.

You might try greyscaling them, then using that background as a gradient on the pictures. and maybe run the pictures (smaller versions of them) along that bottom (longest) diagonal line. I don't know. Just throwing out ideas that might be terrible. lol.

I think you have two styles here working hard to make each other look bad.

The abduzeedo tutorial background isn't really doing so much for me, and is reading a whole lot more like render clouds and lens flare for my taste.

I would try to work the lower half into being the dominate design theme. (see note.) If you went with a wider format you could scale the photos up and stylize them in photoshop to be more "colorful" as it suits you.

The typography isn't terrible. You might want to tighten your gaps a little. But other than that I think it can work.

I can't say it's the most IMAGINATIVE piece, but then maybe thats not it's intention.

what if you just put a color layer on the pics to match the big spotlight colors.......for instance the red would go over the first pic, green over the next, etc.

just an idea :)

here's what i would do...its just a few simple changes.
1. i would make the white border lines that frame the pics, the same width (stroke) as the thin diagonal lines at the top. so all your lines will be the same stroke size. make sense?
2. try putting the pics in a nice blending mode, or playing with the gradients like Guns Mcgee said
3. lose the yellow type color and try placing the type up top - maybe diagonally with the lines? it just looks cramped at the bottom...and maybe even add a subtle blur or glow to the type as well.

just my 2 cents
