17-500 FUW: The green, green grass of home

In Houston, the predominant grass grown is St. Augustine grass. That kind of grass has very thick blades and looks like crabgrass to me. I've always hated it.

I'm so happy that the grass here is my favorite kind of grass: Kentucky bluegrass. Thin blades, soft lawn, so pretty!

16-500 The alien contraption

The house air conditioner doesn't do a good job of cooling the second floor of the house. Our bedroom IS the second floor, so it is impossible to sleep if the daytime temperature goes above 90. (Luckily, that doesn't happen very often.)

So we bought a portable AC unit. We liked the portable units better than the window units because we thought a window unit would look ugly on the front of our house. However, this portable unit looks like some alien robot thingy.

We found an international grocery store! Finding it made me happy. The sexism in it made me sad.

14-500 Home Improvement project 1

The dining room had a rather dim light hanging off-center in the room. (The former owners just had a small table that they placed on one side of the room.) We needed something brighter that hung more toward the center of the room.

Peter installed our new chandelier and swagged it over the center of our table. Good Peter!
