95-500 The wine bar
Our house has a wine bar in the kitchen. There's a wine rack above and a wine fridge below. Peter and I aren't big wine drinkers, so the bar has been extra counter space for us.
However, Peter has been talking about inviting some fellow profs over to the house, and let's face it, people like wine. So I started thinking that we needed to get a few wine glasses for entertaining purposes.
I was still in the thinking-about-it stage (as opposed to the shopping-for stage), when Tania mentioned that she was getting rid of her old wine glasses. Being the good friend that I am, I offered to take them off her hands.
So LOOK! Four pretty wine glasses and a pretty champagne flute! (the flute with the black stem is a cheap one that a bought for this photo). It was like Christmas in November!
The glasses are accompanied by the cutest wine bottle ever. The cat bottle is from Theresa.
I have the bestest friends in the world!

Is this stick bigger than Uncle Peter?
Peter is 6'4". The rest of family is made up of short people.
The kids first met Peter when Eva was about 3.5 years old and Logan was not quite 2. They had never seen anyone as tall as Peter before. He was a GIANT.
After our visit, the kids started using Uncle Peter as their yardstick for all things big. According to my brother, Leland, the kids would ask things like, "Is that tree bigger than Uncle Peter?"
Anyway, the kids were playing in my parents' backyard and started collecting some long twigs. Someone (maybe Peter) observed that the twigs, which were about 3 feet long, were taller than the kids. This prompted the kids to see if the twigs were "bigger than Uncle Peter." Of course, they weren't.
I found this very long branch and gave it to Eva to see if it was bigger than Uncle Peter. The kids were SO happy to see that the stick was bigger than Uncle Peter.
Look at the biggie size to see their faces better.

onion volcano
The whole family ate at a teppanyaki restaurant in Cedar Rapids. Such restaurants didn't exist when I lived there.
Food was okay--but it was all for the show anyway. The kids were a bit alarmed by the fire
