"One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs,
Or the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her walls."
~ from a poem by Saib-e-Tabrizi (as cited by Khaled Hosseini, p.172)
In A Thousand Splendid Suns, Khaled Hosseini: 2007.
A beautiful narrative, replete with images too horrible for yours truly to even visualise, at quite a few points. But, Hosseini's work is definitely worth a wholesome read, just for the poignant ending alone..
Revolving around the lives of two amazing women, his work reads as a testimony to their immense courage and strength during times too horrible for so many of us to imagine, and yet the Hope & Courage borne of their hearts are immense and awe-inspiringly human. More of my humble review on this read, *here*. :)
Take care all, minerva*
p.s. Had taken a private vow that i'd never read another book by Khaled Hosseini again (after reading his debut novel, the beautiful Kite Runner, owing to its painful initial chapters with content 'tis humble heart couldn't agree with) - and yet, when this read came as a gift from a sweet co-(English) Oral Examiner i'd once worked with, i couldn't quite resist.. ;)
