Bright Lights

Bright Lights

When I got to this spot, I quickly realized I didn't bring with me the connecting piece for my tripod. I had to improvise with a not-so-ideal concrete pillar but it turned out alright in the end.

Pier 1

Pier 1

The rain came down in sheets just as I fired the first of three clicks. The third exposure was ten agonizing seconds with both my hands acting as an umbrella above. I knew I wouldn't end up with perfect symmetry but sometimes it's fun to push it and see what you can get. :)

YES!

YES!

At the trail head, we found ourselves surrounded by snow, a raging rapid and six waterfalls that weren't there this past summer. We knew it would be wet but how wet was something we weren't exactly prepared for.

Water from snowmelt was cascading down the trail walls around every corner. It was cold, wet, dreary and absolutely AMAZING! I think I burst out with laughter several times with sheer joy.

Unfortunately, we were forced to turn around earlier than anticipated. We got out to a late start and didn't want to be caught on the trail after dark. That, and only two of us were truly waterproof. Kendra and I went under the waterfall several times for good measure but this was the end.

We plan on returning very soon and this time, we'll be truly ready for it.

Cloudy Sunshine

Cloudy Sunshine

This was our view two hours ago. We rocked out a ridiculously great hike in the Columbia River Gorge this afternoon. Afterward, we decided to eat some dinner across the river in Washington. The bridge we drove across (Bridge of the Gods) can be seen near the central-lower part of the image.

I was filling the car with gas in Stevenson when I saw amazing light coming out of the clouds. I finished at the pump and hurriedly made my way down to the waterfront. Good thing I rushed! The clouds above opened up and poured rain on me within 30 seconds of getting this shot.
