Tim the Tool Man by MilesBintz

Tim the Tool Man

"Be sure to read, understand, and follow all the instructions that come with your power tools. Knowing how to use your power tools safely greatly reduces the risk of personal injury." -Norm

I've been watching New Yankee Workshop since it came on the air. Norm is entirely to blame for my addiction to power tools. Sadly, no matter how many tools I buy, I can't seem to finish a piece of furniture in 26 minutes.

On the blog over at Wood Magazine they're running a little contest on Halloween - "Dress Like Norm Day". Whoever has the best shot will win a little prize. Since I happened to be donning my flannel plaid, and since I happened to be a bachelor for the evening, I did a series of shots.

This is a parody shot I call 'Tim the Tool Man Meets Norm Abram.'

strobist: three light setup....
1. SB28 at 1/32 to the left of me triggered via ebay trigger on the end of 30' PC sync cord because it just couldn't reach the 15' wirelessly (my PC sync port on my camera is broken :( )
2. PM7500 at 1/32 to the right and behind me triggered optically
3. SB-26 at 1/4 through brolly camera right for fill

MM 6yr Birthday by MilesBintz

MM 6yr Birthday

I remember, when I was 6, how time moved by soooo slooow. It seemed like an eternity to get from Halloween to Christmas. Today, time flies by so fast that, come Monday, I no longer wish for Friday to arrive lest time accelerate further and not slow down. Carpe Diem!

But I digress.... Happy Birthday big boy! Enjoy the Transformers! :-)

Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens by MilesBintz

Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens

A close friend of mine got married this past weekend and he and his wife held the ceremony here, at the Botanical Gardens. It was a beautiful wedding and the venues for all the weekend's events were top notch!

This is a very interesting building on both the inside and out. With a macro lens in hand, I suspect you could spend hours shooting away here.

String Slinger by MilesBintz

String Slinger

The results of a recent portrait session I did for a friend of mine. I had a three light setup going but the key was too hot in most of them. I was using ebay triggers which were firing inconsistently. Looking forward to getting some Radio Popper JrX's!

Strobist info: brolly to camera right, bare strobe to camera left for fill, strobe on black seamless for some background texture.

Bass Concert Hall by MilesBintz

Bass Concert Hall

On my way to see Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, and Zakir Hussain at Bass Concert Hall I snapped this picture. I'd never seen this part of the UT campus and I thought the bells were interesting. The sunset and sky were nice after a few days of much-needed rain.
