ripoff or not?
the cover of alicia keys' new single on the left (not my work and i
didn't give permission to use my design), my letterforms of ogaki
typeface (coming soon, real soon!) on the right. do you think it's a
ripoff? what to do in this case?

dude! please do something over this. it seems ridiculous that the designers for someone as high profile as alicia keys are unable to pay you for the licensed use of your typeface. and on another note, yours is nicer.

1, elég sz_r borító ez, primitív ahogy középre bezsúfolták a kib. nagy logotípiát, óvatosan vigyázva hogy ÉPPEN ki ne lógjon már a széleken, a tervezőnek egyes, vissza az alapokhoz! Ez tényleg egy ilyen "nagy név" hivatalos borítója? EZ?
2, sanszos, hogy a betűdet nyúltak, ja
3, ha igen, akkor is jól elba__ták, pont olyan részletek hiányoznak, ami a betűdet élteti, míg ezt a borítót megöli a hiányuk, szóval ez a betűd dupla meggyalázása
4, de valószínűleg tartom, hogy semmit nem tudsz ezzel kezdeni, sajna

béla, 1. én sem értem hogy ennél hogy nem futja nekik valami faszábbra, de mindegy, nem az én dolgom.
4. szóltam a gestaltennek, ők fogják forgalmazni a betűt, hogy erre lettem figyelmes, örültek neki, hogy ez még jó reklám lehet. szóval valamit azért ki kéne hozni belőle. de jogi úton én sem remélek pénzt.
andrew, there is nothing to be sorry for, i havent lost a single thing. and it could turn out to be great advertisement for my typeface. :)

a nyílvesszőt is egyszerre, de egymástól függetlenül találták ki a világ különböző részein. miért ne foganhatna meg egy typora is ugyanaz az ötlet a világ két különböző pontján?

lehet igaz, de nagyon kis esélyt adnék neki. nyár eleje óta fenn van már ez a betűm (azóta szépn bejárta a netet), a cd meg szeptemberben jött ki. nagyon sok minden egyezik, de ami nem, az nálam jobb. szóval nekem ez úgy tűnik, mintha a stílusbeli átértelmezést sem sikerült volna tisztességesen végigcsinálni. a k még ment, de az a esetében megállt a gondolat, és az alulról elinduló negatív vonal félbe is marad. és a nyíl meg gondolat eredménye. itt meg pont a stílus egyezik majdnem. a gondolat meg nálam működik, a borítón meg nem, pont a logikátlan a betű miatt. szóval nem hinném, hogy gondolati irányből jutottak erre.

i think Dixon could definitely get some $$$ out of this. Photography is easy to trace. Photos are always copies. Unfortunately, I think the rules for fonts tend to be based on whether a vector is used.
Unfortunately, because the font was not downloaded (and thus had no EULA attached) and didn't your original vectors... I think it would be impossible to "prove" anything other than influence. And being influenced is not illegal.
Maybe you could team up with Dixon, split a lawyer, and negotiate with the label.
Of course, at the end of the day, getting ripped off is an unavoidable part of being a typographer. But how nice that when you get ripped off... the world becomes a more beautiful place. :-)

yeah, i'm not mad at all. and teaming up is definitely what i want to do. cause maybe i can get a lawyer at no cost from gestalten. so i hope she likes the idea of teaming up cos thats my only chance to negotiate. im on it, lets see what we can do...

All designers look elsewhere for inspiration, but in this case this is blatant plagarism, the designer of the CD cover has tried to alter a few elements to disguise the theft, but there's no way this was arrived at independantly.
I would kick up such a stink if this happened to me, it's just typical thesedays of how designers are treated.
Kick ass man, get what you desrerve out of this.
