Termessos · Thermessos (III)

Termessos · Thermessos (III)

... finally, over the two valleys thar sorround the city, and in front ot the peak of Mount Solymos, remains the theatre.
Solemn, quiet, proud. It's actually well preserved, and it keeps its grace and elegance.
Sculpted steps (as none seen in all Turkey) and a breath-taking landscape as scene.
The most delightful and beautiful ancient theatre I've ever seen. It deserves a visit.
Fortunately, the city is almost unknown; it was discovered a few decades ago, and only a few tourists go up there to see that marvel.

After all, it was the only city Alexandro was not able to conquer :)

Termessos · Thermessos (II)

... after that, the forest closes again. You walk through the main square, sorrounded by temples, and arrive to the Bouleouterion (the Assembly Building), leaving behind some tombs like this one, belonging to some main charachters of the town....

Termessos · Thermessos (I)

Termessos · Thermessos (I)

When you visit Güllük Dağı Mili Parki (Natural Park of Güllük Dağı), you know that in its forests you will be able to find the ruins of the ancient Thermessos but, after visiting lots of greek and pre-greek cities, you think there will be nothing surprising.
Wrong.
After a 20-30minutes walk across a dark and steep path, you arrive to the city walls. They're built crossing a very deep valley with huge and perfectly sculpted stones, as water dams do.
When you let those walls behind, you start to walk through paved but abbandoned streets, flanked by dug tumbs until the forest open a little and, in front of you, the old vaulted façade of the palestra appears with the Mount Solymos watching from behind...
