VIDEO: How To Use A Wrist Distaff

In order to view this Flickr video, you'll need to
install the latest version of the Adobe Flash Player.
For Sean, because he asked. :-)

Some background on the materials: The distaff was made for me by KnitterGuyTed with Sea Island cotton. The lovely clear whorl drop spindle (and some practice fiber!) just arrived today and it's from Loretta and Kim Eue (dba DragonCraft) on Etsy. It's made of poured resin with parsley, sage, rosemary, & thyme in the whorl.

My pleasure! I did one video that was longer than 90 seconds (the limit for Flickr), then had to go back and make it shorter. That's why I'm going so FAST!!!

Good Morning Sunshine!! Yes, I see spindling in your future.

I saw your picture yesterday and went all over 'the internets' trying to figure out what it was for. Got a vague idea, but this is much better!

My wrist won't hold the distaff, it's too limp.

(I just viewed this with the sound. You have a voice made for 900 numbers.)

Thanks.. I think. And yes, it's a laser meant to cut diamonds.. or yarn.

Mine's worth a lot more... per minute.

A distaff is a device used to hold unspun fiber before it is spun (either on a wheel or hand-spindle). A wrist distaff is simply a bracelet that is used that that purpose. You blush easily, no? :-)

Great little video Mike.

I actually got to see one of Ted's distaffs a couple of weeks ago. Raresteek (Ravelry) Alan, had one. Met Alan at Year 1 of the OHS spinning certifcate program where we spent 9 days in cottage country.

On a side note, Alan was a sweetie.
