These curious little birds were quite interested in my hide coming quite close and giving it a good inspecting. They´re quite a comical little winter visitor and in large numbers too.

There were dozens in front of my hide swooping out from the waters edge and picking off insects from the water. Not such an easy bird to get a properly exposed photo due to the sharp contrasts between the black and grey and white though.

The last time I was in El Robledo there were thousands of cranes. The numbers recently have diminished a bit however a lot of them were a long way off with just a few near the road. They say the El Robledo cranes are more approachable than the Tablas cranes due to less hunting going on and so they aren´t as wary of people. Nonetheless, there are still quite a wary bird moving away from near the road when you stop.

Always a pleasure to see these winter visitors to la Mancha and even more so when you see four of them on a pylon and then fly past one by one as they head off for an evening snack.
