church of gary

i was not planning on posting this photograph this early (and out of order) but i needed to process it for something we were doing at church, so here it is.

it is pretty difficult to explain what being in this particular building stirred up in me but i will try. i just kept imagining the people that were involved in building it. not so much the builders or crew themselves, but the people representing the church. i kept imagining them walking around the same rooms i was standing in as walls were going up and how their hearts were most likely filled with excitement as they expected great things to happen within these walls. there i stood on the other end of that spectrum. it felt like hope crushed. awful.

i really want to go back to this particular location with more proper equipment, but for now this will have to do.

this photograph is very similar to the previous one but with more sky. my wife preferred the first one i posted, but i just could not resist processing and posting this one. which one do you prefer?

here is another look at the hotel in gary, indiana. my friend joe, who drove us out to this location, sent me this link with some interesting facts about this hotel. it seems as though it was a pretty happening joint back in the day.

i have had quite a day ...

i was able to visit the town of gary, indiana where friends and i explored a hotel, train station and church that were all abandoned and in terrible states of decay (oh yeah, and a fireworks warehouse ... lookout 4th of july). this hotel was our first stop and found right off the freeway.

i have a few shots i will post from this particular location and then move on to the abandoned train station.
