Sensational shot - I watched some of these guys training at the mouth of the Columbia River many years ago, but I didn't have a vantage point anything like yours here.

That is not a fiberglass boat, that is a 47 foot motor life boat, this boat can completely turn over and come back up again. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibPLFkEpMrM&featu re=related
BTW, I was in the coast guard in 94 when this boat first came out.

Great catch!! I recognize the dunes in the bg.
I see you live in MB. My grandparents retired there from farm in the mid 60's and my family has been visiting regularly since. I'm from Bakersfield originally, now in Arkansas, so my visits are sadly not as often as I'd like!

I gotta be a sour grape here. The photos are well done, very dramatic. The problem is that you just don't conduct an "excercise" this close to the beach especially in bad light. You get enough training in the real world in the Coast Guard without all the drama. Thats just too dangerous. Again. Great shots, well photographed, just not a sensible use of personnel or equipment.

jimw5481 re: at www.flickr.com/photos/mikebaird/3016985275/ "not a sensible use of personnel or equipment" - I think these men and women live for moments like this! There was one unfortunate knock-down here - See Gary Robertshaw's superior sequence of a knockdown capsize at about the location 04dec2007 - there are many related viewer comments at that site including comments from Coast Guard personnel.
