This Evenings Result; A DIY Self Portrait

Strobist: SB-600 snooted, behind tree, on shelf 14" off floor, aimed at background (white sheet), @ 1/128. 2nd SB-600 75" off floor, 4 feet from subject, @ 1/128, into reflective umbrella.

One spotlight on ceiling, 60 watt bulb, on low. (Dimmer Switch).

SU-800 on D200. Fired via CLS.

The self-timer is set at 20 secs. to activate the shutter. To focus, I use the a yellow card taped to a light stand as a 'focus target'.

This is the 30th image that I took. The other 29 are the images that brought me to this one. It was a 3 hour personal lighting lesson.

However, the goal was achieved; to use the ceiling spotlight fixture as part of the lighting, in addition to the 2 SB-600's.

The learning is in the doing!

Next lesson: Use gels. (And iron the sheet, even better, get a more suitable background)

;-)

I would like to point out that I am not re-inventing the wheel here. I am not being a trailblazer. The technique of using a 'focus target' for focusing, came from this guy here, Dustin Diaz, so if you're interested in taking self-portraits using the camera timer, check out his video here, he shows you how to do it better than I can explain it!
