iPod to DVD player hack

This used to be a phono-to-SCART adapter. It probably won't do that job any more.
An iPod. Did you know that video came out of the headphone socket? I didn't.
AV-in sockets round the back here. Handy.
iPod to DVD player hack by MikeDavis.
Cobbled-together in-car entertainment for forthcoming holiday, intended to reduce our load to the tune of umpteen DVDs of Maisy, Thomas the Tank Engine and so on ;-)

Genius :) Who says the great British bodging is dead? Maisy is looking pretty buff in that video :)

Haven't been to Maplins yet, that was just stuff kicking around. Need to get some bits to make a proper (and rather longer) one ;-)

Do you know if all versions of ipod classic have that feature? My ipod wont output video on my non-apple docking station, I think you need some sort of software hack to allow it - not tried the headphone jack (cos I didn't know about it either)

I honestly don't know, I'm afraid. This one's a couple of years old. I did once try the S-Video output on a third-party docking station, didn't work though. I'd try the headphone socket - bear in mind that it's wired in an odd way so it works with ordinary stereo headphones, if you've got a standard jack plug-phono plug AV lead (as comes with most digi cameras) you'll have to plug the phonos in to the wrong colours. Just keep swapping them until you hit the right combination ;-)

I did a bit of googling and on new ipods theres no video on the headphone socket and they use different pins for video on the dock connector so hardware designed for older ipods wont carry video, this gives the option to use 3 component connectors or a composite lead depending on your TV. Just something to bear in mind if you consider getting a new one.
