Col. Benadam GALLUP

Col. Benadam Gallup, Jr., patriot in the American Revolution and the person I connected to to prove my membership in the DAR. He is buried in the Gallup Hill Burying Ground in Ledyard, CT. [once was Groton, CT]

He was a member of the Committee of Safety and colonel of militia of Wadsworth’s Brigade at the Battle of Long Island and in the retreat from New York City In 1777, he commanded a regiment for coast defense. Commission dated 2 Dec 1776 signed by Governor Trumbull

Second Battalion, Wadsworth’s Brigade, Col. Gay’s 1776, Major Benadam Gallup, Groton, Declined app’t served with militia. Lieutenant Colonel, militia
