It probably had some wear before, but I'm not sure how much. I don't remember seeing these big holes when it was open, though. Maybe the kids running through the water obscured my view, but I'm sure the City doesn't want the kids accidentally stepping in that bigger hole and twisting their ankles, hence the fountain's closure.

How sad... that was one of the reasons to bring kids to the downtown area. As fun as the Discovery Museum and Tech Museum are, kids love that fountain... as do many adults. I've seen a handful of people in shirt and tie with their pants rolled up standing in the fountain. Hopefully it's fixed before next summer...

It's the day after Thanksgiving, and I went to the Christmas in the Park stuff and didn't see the cracks and holes anymore. I don't know if the fountain itself is working, though.

the fountain wasnt working for a while, there was cholera or some disease in the pump system, that it had to be close, anyways, those look dangerous to run on when wet, that race messed up most of the downtown, but it wont be back since they pulled out on the city after all the money the city put forth, money that could of been used elsewhere.
