Greeting the Sun, Temple of Flux, Burning Man 2010
The Temple of Flux at Burning Man 2010 was interesting in that you couldn't see the sunrise from inside the structure. This had the effect of drawing people out of it when the sun was coming up. I had found a little spot that -- if was on my side, with my head in the dust and the tripod on the lowest setting, I could still get the actual sunrise and some of the temple. It was fantastic. And then THAT guy walked by. His head-dress was awesome. He was a photographer. I told him, look, you're a photographer, you don't have any good photos of you, right? Want that to change? He was like, hell yeah, so I told him to stand "right here and be very still" -- which he did, and, yo, Mr. Head Dress Photo Guy, here you are. I shot this at f22 to get as much lens flare as I could out of the sunrise, and I like how his head dress mimics the lens flare. This is an HDR image, made out of three raw files shot at 1/15, 1/8 and 1/4 seconds each. - See more pics on my site at www.michaelholden.com

spots of dust on the sky ..... but this is a good thing .. congratulations. Some people say, if a picture is compelling enough you wont notice the flaws .... and until you say that this was shot at f22 I didn't notice the dust!

@Jezebel001 -- I'm honored. I've added the ones I've processed so far will add others as I post them. @Nightshade -- could you zap me Siberfi's contact info? I shot this for him and I'd like to get him a high rez shot (with dust specs removed)

I don't have any more information than you do, my good sir -- but he did respond in the comments just up above, so send him an email through Flickr.

you cheated a bit didn't you? the same sun flare is being used over and over again.
it looks cool, but it's still a bit artificial because of it.
Michael Holden (18 months ago | reply)
Glad y'all like the photo. Sherlizz, that's real lens flare off of the sunrise, and the head dress was...really on his head. I didn't add anything that wasn't in the original photos in photoshop, tho I removed a ton of dust specs, boosted saturation and ran some noise reduction on the right side of the image.
