Maiko (apprentice geisha) Takahina shelters from the rain under a red umbrella

Kyoto was the capital of Japan from 794 until 1868. It is now the seventh largest city in Japan. In Kyoto geisha are known as geiko and trainee geisha are known as maiko.

    This photo, and all your photos really, is incredibly beautiful. You have captured such beauty! this is a favourite, although I really do like most of your geisha/maiko shots. I thought it would be easy, but they move like little bumble bees.
