The Grand Canyon, Arizona, USA

This is a very large panoramic image that will be difficult to appreciate on your computer screen. The actual print size is almost four feet wide. You may be able to get some idea of what it looks like if you view it at the large size.

The image is composed of two rows of photos, with five photos in each row. I also took three exposures of each shot in order to do each segment as an HDR composite.

I cropped out a section of the right-hand side to create the two images that follow.

This is the image that was the starting point for the stylized version created in Photoshop that I recently uploaded. It appears just after this one.

Notice how muddy the Colorado River was on this particular day. You can see it better if you take a look at the large size.

The Grand Canyon - An Alternate Reality

It sort of looks like something from another world.

I used this image as practice with Photoshop. Basically I just created several versions of the image and blended them together in various ways using layer masks and different layer blending modes. I was attempting to create a grunge effect similar to other images I have seen.

This image is actually a cropped segment from a very large panoramic image that I will probably upload also. The image looks best if viewed at the large size.

The Grand Canyon

I always enjoy watching the faces of visitors to the Grand Canyon who have never witnessed its grandeur before. The look in their faces is always the same - shock and awe. Some people are braver than others when it comes to how close they are willing to stand along the rim. These folks didn't seem to be too frightened.

The Grand Canyon really is an unforgettable place. If you haven't been - go! I'm fortunate that I live only 74 miles from the Canyon, so I go quite frequently. Basically it's the weather that dictates when I go. I'm always hoping for some dramatic skies.
