Week 4/52, 2012

I've been wanting to take pictures of this antique typewrite for a while. I thought it would fit with this week's theme, although I'm not sure if it's "extreme" detail. This is a Remington Rem-ette that was passed down from my partner's family. Looking online, it looks like this model was made in the late 1930's through early 1940's. It was considered portable, which is kind of funny since it's much bigger and heavier than today's laptops.

I was originally interested in the detail on the typebars, but I also like the texture of the case and the detail on the keys. I started with short DOF shots, but decided that I the full focus shots were more interesting.

I tend to like shots that are very straight and symmetrical. This was my initial POV for this typewriter. However, I took a number of perspectives and ended up preferring the angle used in my primary shot.

Week 3/52, 2012

I liked this week's theme - liquid - although I found it more difficult to come up with a shot than I expected. I tried a few things, but ended up deciding on a self portrait. I had been wanting to do something like this anyway, so here was my opportunity. I took several set up shots before actually filling the bath tub with water. After many, many shots, I narrowed it down to this one. I'm also posting one alternate - much easier to do now that I'm doing weekly shots rather than daily.

I was originally going to use B&W, but decided to use a blue shade instead.

I seem to be over my need to take a picture every day and I'm now liking the pace of this photo-a-week. I find that I have more time to spend looking at my contact's photos as well as the photos in my groups.

I was overdue for a cemetery photo walk, but I was waiting (hoping) for some snow. We finally got our first real snow today, so off I went to St. James Cemetery. This cemetery opened after St. James Cathedral downtown became overcrowded in the 1840s.
