This is 120 meters of Corning SMF-28e+ Single Mode FIber. Notice how there's no extra layer of shielding around this cable. Not a good thing at these lengths. Back it goes.

Yes, those are SMD transistors soldered inbetween wires

For my first real arduino project ever, I hooked up my philips Imageo LED stick, which is basically a stick with 12 bright RGB leds and a nice connector, to an arduino.

It now accepts RGB hex triplets over serial rather than just showing you 8 colours or a loop.

The arduino can almost drive them directly by sinking current (so you hook it up to the negative lead on the leds and invert anything you do with them) but not at 12V which these things want for full brightness. So I added the transistors.

And of course at home I have no prototyping stuffs and the electronics shop is on vacation so I had to source the transistors from the factory-built controller which of course means they're SMD and tiny.
