Hello World by Mhogan35.
View On Black

Strobist Info:
Lightstand w/ 3 flashes (full power) attached to it (1 on top, 1 superclamped, and 1 taped), moved to each position, and then the camera was fired

Notes:
The photos were combined using layer masks in Photoshop, and then the coloration was slightly altered using nik Color Efex Pro 2.0... Dodging and burning, of course, was used as well, to achieve the final result.

Thanks for looking!

if you wanted to turn it up a notch (it's already at 11 so we need a dial that goes to 12) you could have some star trails going in the background... or is that too far over the top?

Thanks everybody! And to Tim, great idea there! Maybe we could even somehow capture a shooting star, and then throw it into the mix... hehe

Absolutely striking photo! You described the process as including compositing multiple exposures, was the model present for all exposures? The shadows appear to be clearly from a left and right source only. I love the starfield, was that a seperate exposure, or was it in one of the other element photos? And finally, how did you achieve the evenness not only in the spacing of the lights, but also the smooth curve with their distance from the camera always being constant?

Thanks for showing this beautiful photo and for giving so many details.

Thanks! To Neil, the model was only there for a final few images, in which he was later composited into the image, after the background was created. The stars were photographed last, and put in the picture after I had every other element in, masked it, and messed with the layers a little. The spacing of the lights was achieved by using my tripod as a central point, with a rope attached, moving the lights around in a semi-circle, holding the rope tight, and marking the ground in 3 foot intervals with tape. I applied a few effects in the end after everything was there for the final image, to help give it a "singular image" look.

Hope this helps!

Very well done. Nice composition, great effect in putting it all together. And the model just seems to 'work' with the photo and feeling it emits.

Sadly, you don't often see so much honest effort put into a photograph. It paid off.

Absolutely great work! love the concept and how you combined all the elements of the shot, from the model, shadows, the bright lights and most especially the stars in the night sky!

Absolutely brilliant, 'nuf said...=)

This is great. I love how you have the details of the process, and in your answers too. I wonder how you came with this idea, you were really creative there, in an artistic sense.

Congrats.

I saw the same concept in Darien Chin's photostream. Very cool concept, takes a lot of patience.
