Kerr's Halloween Candy

    Newer Older

I suspect this may be a Canada-only thing.

And I suspect most people from Canada are gagging at this point.

But me, I was the weird kid who loved these rock-hard molasses candies. And I finally found them this year after a very unfruitful hunt last year. Awww yeah.

nep, suzannelong, jasohill, and 3 other people added this photo to their favorites.

That's the best part of halloween right there. I'm one of those weird people too Dave. It used to mean a goldmine of candy for me when I was a kid because my older sister hated them.

@Jeff Smith - exaaactly. Playing cleanup crew for unwanted Halloween candy was my specialty.

Nice. The candies with the affectionate moniker of "Poo-Candy". I fell into the category of, "It's better than nothing.", and I would usually end up eating a few of them sometime near the end of November.

Those candies last f-o-r-e-v-e-r. Not only do they get stuck on your teeth, they get jammed in between your teeth. Ah, the good ol days.

The easiest way to remove loose fillings.

I can attest to this from unfortunate personal experience. Ouch.

oh god... i love these things... where did you find them??

    11. mezzoblue 69 months ago | reply

The picture immediately preceding this one is a clue. The London Drugs on Granville & Georgia was where I found mine, I'm guessing that means any LD location oughtta work.

I must also chime in with the love - these candies *are* halloween for me!

they were always the last ones to be eaten, and at that point, any sugar would do. Dave, can you eat one and post a picture of the wrapper? that witch looks crazy.

I love these things, and I hope you don't mind that I sent this photo to my mum, who I'm hoping will put some in a care package this halloween!

Kerr and Allan used to compete. I preferred the Allan Version... Sadly only Kerr is available. The closest thing you can get to this stuff is La Tire Sainte Cathrine which is usually hand made at home, in Quebec

The trick with these is to warm them carefully in the microwave for only a few seconds. This softens them and removes the risks to your fillings and also makes them tastier. However over-heating can lead to nuclear hot centres. You have been warned!

I LOVE these candies! I remember there was the light colored ones as well as the dark ones. I loved the light colored ones best. I haven't been able to find them anywhere in years. Anyone see them? I'm in Vancouver BC.

I was surprised to discover recently that this is a rather polarizing candy. I like them a lot and had figured everyone else felt the same. Surprised to discover they are widely hated. Bought a 2 lb bag post Halloween on sale to introduce my children, only to have them respond with a "yuck." Shrugs. Oh well, more for me.
