Light Roast

Light Roast by mezzoblue.
Getting a little closer. If I stopped now, this would be a light roast, maybe leaning a little closer to a city roast.

Incidentally, there's more caffeine in the coffee at this stage; the longer you roast it, the more the caffeine caramelizes. So if you've been buying dark roasts for the extra caffiene hit, I've got bad news for you...

I've never seen the process like this. Very well documented. Many people don't roast their own coffee because of the convenience that Starbucks presents.

This process is justified by price of the beans alone. I guess people are too busy for fresh coffee.

I can smell it now...

Good call, Dave - working at an independent coffee shop, I found that a great deal of people thought that they were getting something extra out of their daily dark roast. "Nope, just making it a bit harder to drink."

...not that I don't love dark roast.

At my shop, the dark's caffeine content is nearly comparable to the decaf (or someone told me that one day), which I always thought was odd.

Anyway, congrats on the Lifehacker link! Awesome set.

Agreed, mezzoblue. This is a common misnomer. I usually tell people that it's the opposite of beer's characteristics.
