Some of these settings have been made with shadows in mind, some before, most of them attempt to emulate 'Magic Hour', the first and last hour of sunlight during the day when the quality of the light and shadows (long) is perfect for cinematography.

Conrad Hall said that "Manipulating shadows and tonality is like writing music or a poem.... There are infinite shadings of light and shadows and colors... it's an extraordinarily subtle language. Figuring out how to speak that language is a lifetime job."

I leave you with some other thoughts on shadows.

"Most people think that shadows follow, precede or surround beings or objects. The truth is that they also surround words, ideas, desires, deeds, impulses and memories."
    Elie Wiesel

"what is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset." - Anthony Ferrer

"To contemplate is to look at shadows."
    Victor Hugo

"Beauty deprived of its proper foils and adjuncts ceases to be enjoyed as beauty, just as light deprived of all shadows ceases to be enjoyed as light."
    John Ruskin

Thanks so much for sharing this!

@InTeaWeTrust, yes, the Mac handles shadows... if you happen to have an nVidia card in them :) With my old and outdated ATI card I *barely* get shadows out of it...

It's Thaumata Strangelove, btw. Didn't realize I answered with my RL account, haha. <3
