MTT'S NEW HOME

MTT'S NEW HOME

The Merseyside Transport Trust has recently moved into newer and much better premises. Since this shot was taken, the 25000 sq foot building has slowly filled up with the collection of buses that we had kept for many years in four of the remaining WW2 hangars on the former RNAS Burscough (HMS Ringtail) which was a former Fleet Air Arm naval air station.

Although the physical move is now nearly complete there is much work still required to do setting up our new home as a restoration base for the MTT collection.

Please check out our website www.mttrust.co.uk for more information.

The restored pair await parking inside the industrial unit which is to become their new home after the MTT's recent move from the neighbouring former airfield.

For more information on A36 & A267 and indeed the other Regents in our collection please see our website www.mttrust.co.uk

ANOTHER LIVERPOOL FC HOME COMING

ANOTHER LIVERPOOL FC HOME COMING

Not long after being converted to Open Top following fire damage in one of Liverpool's eastern districts, the MPTE's 1551 OLV551M gets escorted by the Police along Liverpool's Queens Drive outer ring road in the summer of 1984 whilst various members of the Liverpool FC team hold the European Cup aloft as they tour the city on their return.

Perhaps someone would be good enough to give some more details about who's holding the cup etc....

Over the folowing twenty years the bus was used on numerous occasions as the various Merseyside teams brought home numerous items of silverware, however 1551's crowning glory came when it was used to carry LIverpool again in 2005 but thats another story... however the bus is now part of the Merseyside Transport Trust collection. www.mttrust.co.uk

MUA45P BRISTOL LHS6L

MUA45P BRISTOL LHS6L

The MTT's most recent acquistion is fleet number 2160, a little Bristol LHS bus which we acquired in the late spring of 2011 and was re-painted and MOT's in time to take part in the Merseyside Transport Trust's Classic Liverpool Bus Running Day held in early September. It is seen above having just arrive at Liverpool's Pier Head after a quick round trip on the 101.

The bus was one of five Bristol LHS that were originally loaned and later acquired from the West Yorkshire PTE in 1980. These small buses where used on a pair or newly introduced community bus routes that served Toxteth (the 100) and Vauxhall (101).

Dennis Lancets replaced the LHSs in 1982 and for a period the little Bristols where used on the 102 Broadgreen Hospital - Walton service before being loaned and later sold to Nottingham.

After a string of further owners, MUA45P was fortunate enough to be acquired for preservation and was initially restored in WPTE livery before gaining BR Metrotrain livery, in which it was acquired by the Merseyside Transport Trust.

Please visit our website www.mttrust.co.uk for more information on this bus and the rest of our collection..

MTT 1836, GILLMOSS

MTT 1836, GILLMOSS

1836, TWM220V is the last surviving example of the final batch of 22 East Lancs bodied Leyland Atlanteans that were delivered to Merseyside PTE in 1979-1980. Fortunately 1836 has been part of the Merseyside Transport Trust Collection since 2004 and has been restored to its early 1980s condition and Verona Green and Jonquil with brown trim livery. It is seen here waiting time at the bus stop on the East Lancashire Road outside the former MPTE Gillmoss Garage enroute to Kirkby whilst partaking in the 2010 Classic Bus Running Day organised by the MTT. Gillmoss Garage had been opened in 1962 and was Liverpool Corporation's last deport to be built prior to the formation of the MPTE. The depot is now owned by Stagecoach Merseyside and remains little changed in appearance from its LCPT/MPTE days.
