okay, i must be an idiot. i cannot for the life of me figure out how to set this up.

i have a text file that i created called "jottr.txt" and have assigned a control+option+command+j keystroke to it.

as in this picture, i have the first pane containing my jottr.txt file and the 2nd pane set up as append text.

i then click save. and then hit the keystroke and nothing happens. am i crazy?

Tried these?

Also make sure it’s not a command that’s “stepping on” an existing OS X command (like, say “cmd-a”) or a command you’ve assigned to another trigger.

Also, do you hear a "beep" when you do the command?

no beep. the problem was that i was using textmate to make the file, but it wasn't a text file, despite the .txt extension. :\

got it fixed now!

I've got the same problem mathewh had but I'm hearing the "beep" that you mentioned.

Any idea of what's going wrong?

btw, I'm using a file I created using vi (plain text editor), and it has a ".txt" extension.

The troubleshooting documents contain everything I know about fixing this.

Thanks for the links. I got it fixed.

I'd combed all through those docs this afternoon with no luck.

The only thing I did differently was add the folder containing my ".txt" file to the quicksilver catalog under preferences. I guess entering the path to the txt file in the top QS box doesn't work if it's not in a folder that QS indexes.

I'm not sure why but that's what fixed it for me.

This trigger is becomming my most used as it's a simple and fast way to jot down ideas and build to do and shopping lists. I use the GeekTool PrefPane to display my lists on the desktop.

There is something satisfying in adding an item to a list with this simple method and seeing it on the desktop.
