Seriously.

Seriously. by merlinmann.
And, so, it's come to this: reduced to "buster"-based ideograms and begging.

I wonder: are all PR people developmentally disabled, or is it just the ones who want to talk to me?

I can add you to the distribution list if you're interested in cutting-edge Windows technologies and web sites with lots of long vowels in the name.

It's desperation, Merlin - the kind of desperation that dares not recognize itself as such. There should be a word for it, but there isn't, I don't think.

The imaginary chapter BEFORE the beginning of Glengarry Glen Ross -- that must have been loaded with it. Forced jollity caused by embracing "the box" for want of any better ideas.

Gosh, that sounds elitist.

Sorry, but I get a lot of PR material, too. Sometimes it really glows. Often, it doesn't.

You'd think bouncing an email back would be enough, but that's like poking a hornet's nest.

When they get the automated "no, seriously, thanks, but like I said, I really don't have any use for PR stuff, bye" they spend an hour wardialing email addresses until they can punch through with their huffy "It's not PR!" response.

So, there you go. Now, I'm the big douchenozzle for not recognizing and promoting their Unique Value Proposition™. Awesome. Well, sure: now I'm interested!

Right there with ya, MM. If you want I can send over my blacklist of PR firm domains that I use to auto-delete messages; it's my second-tier spam filter.

I just sent out a request for gadgets where I specifically spelled out "no software or services please!", so of course I got a bunch of replies with software and services. Sometimes I feel like people just see the keywords and react to them rather than looking at the context.

I'm pretty sure I'm guilty of the skim-n-send though, too. So um pot n kettle, living together in harmoneeeeee.

These days I get tons of recruiters wanting to tell me about great sales and executive management positions. I do neither. No thanks!
