Ilan Rubin | Nine Inch Nails

Taken from on stage behind the band. Ilan taking one of his turns away from the drums and at the keyboard, which he plays on March Of The Pigs and Gone, Still. (Maybe on others too, I can't remember now.) On MOTP he plays both drums and keys, actually. Gets up from his kit and runs over to the keyboard and then runs back.

This is an experiment in two-toning: going from a cold blueish tint in the lower right to a warm tint in the upper left. Also trying to emulate a silver film look but I don't think I got that quite yet. Done by using color control points in Capture NX, which is the proprietary Nikon software for RAW files, and then finished with full-image and localized curves in Photoshop. I didn't use any overall shadow/highlight adjustment on this at all. I thought those marks on the lower-right drum head were some horrible kind of noise until I realized it's the marks of thousands and thousands of hits with his drumsticks.

If you look closely, you can see Trent on his own keyboard right under the spotlight in the center.

This was a seats-only show (although nobody really sits) and I was in the front row right in front of Justin--as opposed to where I usually try to be, down between Trent & Robin--so I got more pictures than usual of him this time and without his being blocked too much by the equipment on stage.
