Panic at the thought of doing a thing is a challenge to do it. ~Henry S. Haskins
I had a fear of opening my eyes under water.
Everything is magnified. The ocean floor looks so close even though it's many feet below. My brain has trouble processing this and I go into a panic and start to hyperventilate. I had a "practice run" of snorkeling at the beach before going out into the deep waters to try the real thing and was unsuccessful.
When I got off the boat at the designated area I panicked again. I went back to the boat to request a life jacket. I strapped that around my waist and with the knowledge that I would be ok even if I panicked a little bit; I tried it again. This time successfully.
Next time, maybe I'll be able to do it without support.
