I just made a pie like normal. Unbaked pie dough on the bottom, cherry filling, then sealed with more dough, using a fork and some egg wash. I used a knife to cut the pi symbol vent. I picked up some number cutters at a cooking suply store and got the numbers for pi online, cut them out and placed them on with egg wash, and then egg washed the whole pi so it would be golden brown and have some sheen. I covered the numbers with foil so they wouldn't burn, but oncovered them about half way through so they would get some color.

I etched a glass "pi" dish once, with the same design you used here -- greek symbol in the center, about 50 digits going around the outside. It was pretty and made a great gift for a fellow geek.
