scrabble

scrabble by MegElizabeth_.
ry and i are home for thanksgiving! and the only thing to do is play scrabble. the pointing hand belongs to a mysterious man that has not yet been featured on flickr... and at that moment was making ry smile quite broadly. : )

If you only allowed for proper names, Joyoc is a city of about 800 people in Peru.

And I notice you noticed one of the problems with changing ISO: it's grainy. Or rather, in the case of digital, noisy.

When you crank up the ISO, basically all you're doing is telling the sensor to be more sensitive to light. But if they're too sensitive, they'll be fooled into thinking any form of energy is light: heat, the electrical charge that's running through the sensor. That sort of thing. So random pixels will suddenly turn on, blue, green or red, creating that effect.

There are ways to lessen it, but they usually involve blurring the image a bit to cause the colours to run together. Which also results in a loss of sharpness.

An interesting option that will lessen the noise, if not the grain, is to open the image up into LAB space, then blur the A and B colour channels, leaving the L (Luminosity) channel untouched.

There are commercial programs that you can buy that will help eliminate noise, too, like Neat Image or Noise Ninja. These do a better job, but is it worth it?
