Marc Bolan statue

Marc Bolan statue by Meg Pickard.
Where Bolan hit the tree at Queen's Ride, Barnes.

I live near here. Figured it was about time I visited.

Hi Meg,

Glad you made it to the site cared for by TAG. I founded TAG after it was reported in The Daily Mail in late 1998 that the Tree was scheduled for felling by 2002. This is why TAG stands for T-Rex ACTION Group ... because ACTION was needed to Save The Tree (which we did).

The site was called "more shit-hole than shrine" in a glossy monthly magazine in 1995 so it was wonderful that our hard work paid off and meant that in 2007 the site was Officially Recognised by English Tourist Board (Enjoy England) and listed by them as Marc's Shrine in their guide to Rock 'n Roll sights of importance: England Rocks www.england-rocks.co.uk

As well as caring for The Bolan Tree and surrounding site TAG now also runs our Marc Bolan & T-Rex Fan Club on www.Marc-Bolan.net .

Sorry if this sounds like a 'plug' - yes it is, but hey, for a humble 'fan' (since 1970) to have a 'dream' and end up being offered an in perpetuity lease on the site is something I am hugely proud of. When I used to visit the Tree after Marc died (which I did nearly daily after I moved to London in 1978) - I never imagined anything like this would ever happen.
