1864 This late twelfth-century figure of Saint James still welcomes pilgrims as they enter the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. A cast of the sculpture around the magnificent entrance, known as the Pórtico de la Gloria, was acquired by the V&A in 1866. Charles Thurston Thompson photographs were once displayed alongside the cast in the Museum.
