Marina Centre and the Marina Bay
The Scene:
Marina Centre is a zone of reclaimed land within the Downtown Core in the southern part of Singapore. Together with the Marina South area, it encloses the sheltered Marina Bay.
Shopping malls such as Suntec City Mall, Marina Square, Millenia Walk, a suite of hi profile hotels such as Swissotel, Mandarain Oriental and the Singapore Flyer are located within the Marina Centre.
A little bit about the Land reclamation:
So how does Singapore manage the ever increasing population explosion? Well, landlocked cities can simply extend their borders, but what about Singapore, secluded island. And that too, being a City-State!
The answer lies in Land reclamation - the process to create new land from sea or riverbeds. 20% of the original size or 135 km2 is actually reclaimed land. Despite the fact that disputes persist with Malaysia over Singapore's extensive land reclamation works, the Government is doing its best to extend to whatever land it can get its hands on. Much of Singapore's land reclamation apparently happened with Sands from the Hills from the interior parts of the island such as Tampines, Bedok etc., which has made Singapore virtually flat now. And today, it is heavily relying on importing sand from neighboring countries such as Indonesia and beach sand for the refill.
The Story:
Not much, I shot this as I watched the blue hour pass by while waiting for the fireworks display at last week's National Day rehearsals.
The Shot:
Canon 24-105 L to give that tight frame, f/16 | 25 sec | ISO 100
