Coast Guard Hangar

Coast Guard Hangar by Mdrn~Mrvls.
This has been a stalled WIP for quite awhile now. As of this past weekend, I was able to scrounge enough blue plates (along with a base plate) to complete the roof.

The building features two sets of sliding doors, one on each end, two smaller doors on the sides.

Is there one of these in TC? The coast guard built a new hanger at the Muskegon airport a few years ago. It has a flat roof and sliding doors like this, but it's a different color.

No, the hangar doesn't look like this. I actually never new what the hangar actually looked like until I saw this picture (it's the one at the top of the web page.) My build was, once again, just based off the pieces I had at the time. I also visited a small airfield out where I live, so that inspired me to make this as well.

If you click history, it talks about how the operations were being moved around in Traverse City, Muskegon, and Detroit. It makes it seem like the Muskegon was totally dissolved and moved to Detroit, but you mentioned the new hangar, so maybe they switched operations again. The site was last updated in 2008, so things really don't match up.

Thank you! :)

That's funny. It does make it sound like the air station ceased to exist in 2001, but I believe the present hanger was built after that point. There were a few times when the Muskegon facility was going to be shutdown and it always got saved by our local representatives.

All I can find is an interior picture (dated 2008) and this crappy photo of it being built:

That's really odd. So, maybe it went vacant in 2008 after it was built and before the article was written. It doesn't seem like the Coast Guard would do something like that though.

I don't believe it did, but it's always possible. I know I saw CG helicopters around here this summer, but they could have always been flown from a different area.

I'll try to find out sometime.

I can't believe it's so hard to find info about the hanger here. I probably shouldn't care this much, but it's been bugging me.

If you look at this page it mentioned the opening in 2006 and says there is a long-term lease at the airport: www.alea.org/public/newsletters/06_09/index.a spx#Coast_Guard

That makes sense now, as the Coast Guard website mentioned the TC Air station covers much of Southern Lake Michigan. Thanks for finding that! :)
