STS-132 SRB Separation

Having expended their solid rocket fuel, the SRBs are jettisoned back to Earth in what may be the final flight of Space Shuttle Atlantis on STS-132 to the International Space Station. They are about to engage the Orbital Maneuvering System (aka thrusters) for the first time of the mission, at an altitude of 177,000ft +-, and 35 mi downrange at around mach 4.3.

This shot was from the NASA Causeway, exactly 6.81 miles south of launch Complex 39A at a heading of 0.44*
