Yup, that's a cobra. A few minutes later the boa was on my shoulders and the cobra about a foot away from my neck (I have video for doubters).

Half this lake is normal, the other half is geothermal. Birds like it because the ground is warm. The Maori like it because it's easy to hunt birds!
