seen better days

seen better days by mcandrea.
see in large view for best effect (this photo was not edited or croped)

Yirgalem Ethiopia 2007

The Sadomo region of the Ethiopia is known for producing the best coffee second to Harar....Make Trade Fair!

I don't really understand yet the psychology as to why poverty pictures seem to touch the heart the way they do. And therefore I see these shoes as a token of survival and experience rather then shame.

*(for more up lifting photos of ethiopia check out ETHIOPIA 2007)*

My father was actually taking her portait head shot when I noticed these little shoes which had seen better days.

Maybe the toes were deliberately cut out for aeration, like to make sandals? Either way, incredible.

Although the toes of these shoes may have been cut off - the tattered toenails tell a different tale. Another excellent shot.

Makes me feel very uncomfortable for all kinds of reasons (not least being the fact that I couldn't have got down on the floor in front of someone to take this shot) but yes, it's certainly worthy of an NG cover.

we saw a lot of people like that in Ethiopia..and they still smile at strangers we are. if you go there, do not forget to leave your clothes, specially in the highlands, where people are suffering from the cold...
