Alignment

Alignment by mbshane.
Once a year, the moon, Venus, and Jupiter align. This year, it happened just after Thanksgiving (which is quite early for this phenomenon).

Although the moon and the planets appear close to each other in the sky, they are actually millions of miles apart. The moon is 240,000 miles away; Venus is 93 million miles away and Jupiter is a scant 539 million miles from earth.

This shot was taken in Gypsum, Colorado. From other locations the moon and the planets make a cute face; I'm sure you've seen those photos by now. :-)
