Hidden, But for the Reflection

Hidden, But for the Reflection

I can always see their tracks, but we have never seen deer at the pond. Yesterday morning we spotted these two. I would have missed the one on the left, but the reflection gave him away.

Moonset with Starry Sky - Sorry No Meteors!

Moonset with Starry Sky - Sorry No Meteors!

I went out last night to attempt to catch the meteor shower about 3:15 AM. Not much luck with meteors, but I saw a beautiful moonset with a star filled sky. The clouds in the sky were illuminated by the moon, making it look very much like a sunset.

Sunflowers and Old Wood - Winner Best of Nikonians 2011 HDR

Sunflowers and Old Wood - Winner Best of Nikonians 2011 HDR

This is similar to a previous photo that I posted in September of this old barn not far from my home in Northeastern Oklahoma. The photo is composed of two shots, one underexposed and one overexposed, to capture the broad light range and to avoid blowing out the sunset while capturing detail on the face of the barn. Shots were at F11 and 1/15 sec and F11 and 1/125 sec. A very wide angle lens was used (11 mm) at a relatively high Fstop (F11) in low light in order to allow the foreground and background to be in focus. It was a tough shot because the wind kept moving the grass and the sunflowers. I had to wait for still moments, because the highest sunflower kept moving and a 1/15 second is a pretty slow shutter speed.

I entered it in Nikonian's Best of 2011 contest not really expecting it to win and was shocked to learn that it had won for their HDR category. Here is the link to the Best of Nikonians 2011 HDR Winner page.

iPhone 4s HDR Panorama - Pawhuska Camaro

iPhone 4s HDR Panorama - Pawhuska Camaro

This is a panorama of 3 HDR photos taken with the iPhone 4s using the Pro HDR application inside the phone and then stitched together inside the iPhone with the AutoStitch application. I did a little touchup of the edges and cropped it in CS5, but everything else was done in the iPhone. The iPhone 4s has a 2.8 lens that allows for multi-exposure panoramas hand held. After you take the series of photo's for the panorama, AutoStitch puts it together before your eyes inside the phone faster than my desktop that has an an Intel CORE i7 processor. Except for some halo effects in the sky next to the buildings and between the wires, the HDR is very natural looking. In a wide open sky situation, there are no halo effects.
