D R A G O N : Kinefuri Matsuri

Men of this small town in Gifu Prefecture, Japan, participate in the annual spring festival by expelling this dragon from the the local shinto shrine. Behind them, other men pull and push beneath the dragon covering, making the wild procession especially dangerous for the crowd lining the narrow descent from the shrine.

Behind them, generations of women enjoy the spectacle. Young girls snap photos with their cell phone cameras.
