Into the Mist by Michael Bollino

Into the Mist

The forecast called for calm winds around Mt. Hood a few days back, so I made the predawn drive up to this well photographed lake to see what sunrise would bring. The whole drive up looked promising with a few clouds drifting by. But when I dropped down to where the lake was, there was a dense and slow moving layer of fog/ mist sitting on it. So--- no mountain views that morning, but it was good to focus on capturing a more atmospheric scene.

Sierra High Country by Michael Bollino

Sierra High Country

I decided to repost this one after reprocessing it for the better--- cleaned up some dust spots from the grad as well as bumped the exposure a notch. Definitely think it presents better. This is classic Sierra high country-- North Peak if you wondering.

Well, I planned on still being in Costa Rica at this point, but sickness has a way of ruining the best plans. Before heading to C.R. we flew to the east coast to visit family. Within a few days most of my wife' side of the family had the flu! I had it as well. Then, two days before taking off for Costa Rica, our 7 month old son ran a high fever and he ended up being admitted to the hospital for a two days. Goes without saying we canceled our travel plans. At least we were able to convalesce for a week at house on an island in Maine.

I hope to get out shooting soon and post new material--- the past three weeks have been a wash as far as photography is concerned!

Straight to Bachelor by Michael Bollino

Straight to Bachelor

View towards Mt. Bachelor from near the Cascade Lakes Highway. This whole section of meadow held many small streams and small bodies of water, as well as patches of wildflowers. If the flowers ever take off this would be a killer location full of compositional possibilities!

Tomorrow we step on a plane back to the east coast to visit family and introduce them to our son Landon. Looking forward to returning to some roots.

After that it's on to Costa Rica for a couple of weeks. Hopefully I can find myself, and my camera, in front of some incredible natural beauty--- shouldn't be too hard in a place such as Costa Rica!

Have a great few weeks everyone!

Cascade Morning by Michael Bollino

Cascade Morning

Spent a great weekend in central Oregon in and around Sparks Lake. Just after taking this shot Stephen Oachs, another Flickrite, walked to the viewpoint. It's rare for me to meet other photographers I know from the flickrverse, so it was great to talk with him for awhile and watch the morning unfold. Just wish we had more time to shoot. The next morning I ran into him again as we repeated our pre-sunrise ritual. Ryan Dyar was with him as well. Both super nice guys. If you haven't visited their photostreams, grab a coffee or beer or beverage of choice, then spend some time viewing their photographs. Both of them are great photographers:

Rhodies at Lolo by Michael Bollino

Rhodies at Lolo

On the way back from Mount Hood I took a detour up to Lolo pass to try and find the classic rhodie and forest scene. It seems right now most of the blooming rhodies are found in the clearings. The ones I found in the forest haven't popped yet.
