Oakland Cathedral of Christ the Light

Oakland Cathedral of Christ the Light by m.bibelot.
Jacek's grandmother is a devout Catholic, so we went with her and Jacek's mom to attend mass at the new SOM designed cathedral in Oakland.

I can't believe there was room for it. Now I'm going to have to drive down there & see if I can remember what was there before...
I can't help but think of all the money they spent building this, $ that could have been used to help people in need.

funny you should say that (about the money), because Jacek's grandmother seemed kind of angry after our little self-guided tour. She wanted to know where they got all the money to build such a fancy cathedral. She's visiting from Poland where cathedrals are not so fancy, I guess.

Exactly. I understand spending the money if it's to restore or earthquake retrofit an old building. We've got some huge new places like this up here too, just seems so contradictory to have such a grand show of wealth. Maybe contradictory isn't the word....Anywhoo. nice architecture. : )
