I take photographs of textures I see. I find textures everywhere like on old plastic and metal, concrete, paper, old books, etc. I will bring a bunch of these photos into Photoshop on different layers. Then I will go through layer by layer and adjust the layer blending mode and layer opacities until I get the look I'm going for. I will also use other Photoshop tools like the clone tool, healing brush, dodge and burn, etc. to further change the texture. It's a lot of fun. You should try it!

thank you for offering your texture...I am new to the world of digital texturizing but have done it for many years manually in the darkroom using all kinds of found transparent objects...like old glass or plastic used for various dirty things, even melting my negatives....lens tissue was my first ever texture..lol.

If you or anyone has any technical advice....or even just any referenced material as "how to" ....I would be most appreciative ..if anyone is interested in seeing what this looks like in an analogue application feel free to take a look at my older film work from 1994-2005

I love your photostream! The stuff you were doing with textures and film is really beautiful. This is from my Layered Textures set description and might help answer your question:

"The simplest way to use these textures is to put them on a new layer in Photoshop above your image and change the layer mode until you find a look that you like. Then you can adjust the opacity of the layer to fine tune the look. You can combine multiple textures on different layers, or even the same texture on multiple layers with different layer modes, to achieve various looks with your photos."

I will also take the eraser tool with a soft brush and erase areas of the texture that I don't want covering the original image. I'm not an expert with this stuff, and I'm sure others can give you more help, but that is my technique.
