It's unusual for me to be able to get this close to a Clark's Grebe. While they do migrate to Southern California, these grebes tend to spend more time off-shore and less in protected bodies of water. This one, my first of Fall, was in a man-made lake in south Orange County. We had gone down there to find a Painted Redstart, which is a rarity in this area. Finding and photographing both was a nice start for that day.
