First Day Of School... At Home

First Day Of School... At Home

Emilie started school in September. Here she is checking out her new kindergarten math book and enjoying the morning sunshine.

I've decided to homeschool Emi this year. People hear the word homeschooling and tend to think it's either for religious reasons or because you're not happy with the public school system... for me it was neither... it was simply because for Emi (for this year) it seemed to be a good fit. She's doing awesome and she loves it!

Every day she has math, reading, writing, science, art and fun! She was so excited when the big box of books arrived that she could hardly wait to dig in and get started... and now I have a hard time getting her to stop.

Mooo-ving Along

Mooo-ving Along

Hi Friends! It's been months since I've posted to flickr... I've missed you all very much. I'll be catching up on photostreams over the next few days... and I'll keep "moo-ving along" until I'm all caught up!

Here's a shot of my newest friend. She's a Scottish Highland cow... yes, despite those very large horns, she is a girl. :) This photo doesn't show her size very well, but she is massive. She looks intimidating, but she's super sweet.

Emi, Old 300 and the coolest Conductor ever.

Emi, Old 300 and the coolest Conductor ever.

It was a windy & very rainy day, but we stopped to watch the trolley coming down the tracks. I grabbed Emi out of the car so that she could see it better... she loves the trolley. She was all smiles and waiving her little hands off as it passed us by... and then it stopped!! The conductor got off and asked Emilie to come over to him. He talked to her for a couple of mintues, put his conductor's hat on her head and posed for some pictures. Then he gave her a trolley button, waived goodbye and went on his way.

What a special man. He made her day... he made her whole week... and she will never forget that moment.

The Astoria Riverfront Trolley (Old 300) was built back in 1913 and it's beautiful. If you're ever in Astoria Oregon, take a ride along the waterfront, soak up the history and say hello to the nicest conductor you'll ever meet. I hope this man knows just how much his few mintues meant to one little girl... and we send him our thanks.
