130 of 366 Self Portraits

My index finger, holding my glasses between my camera and my face.
130 of 366 Self Portraits by MattPenning.
Flash of inspiration.

I noticed my glasses, which I had pushed up on my forehead so I could focus in on small print.

Ah-ha!

It's harder than I thought, to focus through my glass lenses onto my face.

That's why this is a bit out of focus.

A good learning experience though. I ended up using manual focus, and taking many frames, incrementing the focus ever so slightly, until I had this.

I'm not frowning here. I'm actually smiling. Squinting, in my attempt at seeing what's in front of me, but actually trying to smile.

Different!

I'm still not sure exactly what you did, but I can appreciate attempting to focus without glasses. Bummer.

Thanks All!

Judy & Dan - Autofocus of my face through my glasses, turned out to be problematic. I put the lens on manual focus, held my glasses in front of my face about 6 inches away from me and about 2 feet away from the camera. I then would take a shot and move the focus (without checking the capture - didn't want to move too much), then take another, move the focus.

It's a really great idea Matt.. very ingenious!! I imagine how hard it must have been to focus..
I don't like manual focus at all, mainly because I wear glasses too and everything's blurry when I look through the viewfinder anyway (since I have to take them off) :P
